About Fran

CBT is the world’s most validated form of treatment. I believe “Evidence-Based Practice” is best defined as a collaboration between research outcomes, clinician skill and client wishes and values. I promise to work collaboratively with you to help you achieve your goals! I hold advanced certification in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and am a Diplomate in the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Together we will work to improve your insight, mood and motivation. You will learn what influences your mood and decision-making, and how ways of thinking and doing can lead to feeling stuck and hopeless. In addition to CBT, I can teach you powerful skills to improve distress tolerance and emotional regulation. These are skills you will learn to use now, and can rely on in the future. Let’s get started!

I utilize Inference-Based Cognitive Therapy (I-CBT) and Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP)  to treat OCD and related conditions. I-CBT is a powerful alternative to exposure therapy for OCD and the insights achieved with this approach will help you learn to trust yourself again, even after decades of suffering from OCD. I will work with you closely to craft a personalized treatment plan that will focus on what is most important to you. My clients see me as collaborative and warm, and my approach makes sense. I am available between sessions for check-ins and support.

Fran is available for training, consultation or supervision on matters related to CBT, Inference-Based Cognitive Therapy, School Mental Health, Trauma Sensitive Schools, and Social-Emotional Learning. Fran earns consistently excellent reviews from professionals in the field, parents, graduate students and clients. Contact Fran to discuss your needs and he can customize a training or workshop for you or your organization.

My Qualifications.

I have advanced certification in the practice of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, (CBT) the world’s most validated form of psychotherapy. I am a Diplomate in the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, and am a course designer and instructor of Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Simmons Graduate School of Social Work in Boston, MA.  I have completed trainings through the International OCD Foundation’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute.

I have training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, the evidence-based practice of paying attention, in a particular way, to the present moment, pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn. I have additional training in Mindfulness Fundamentals and in evoking the Relaxation Response, developed at the Benson-Henry institute of Mind-Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital

Our Process.

Our work will begin by taking a detailed history of the sorts of challenges you have faced and strategies used so far to deal with them. We will collaboratively identify and choose goals, targets of intervention, and methods of practice outside of session time to reinforce learning and accelerate progress. We will assess our work together and make adjustments as necessary. We will plan for the end of treatment as we go along, to ensure that our time together remains efficient and productive.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is the world’s most validated form of psychotherapy, with extensive literature supporting its application to wide variety of conditions. This is because the CBT approach makes common-sense, especially when done in collaboration with a trained practitioner. As an Evidence-Based Practice, we will use CBT as a methodology that acknowledges your expertise, goals and values while engaging in a semi-structured skills-based learning experience. One goal of CBT is to help you learn to be your own therapist, so you can address what’s important to you now, and use the skills you learn to meet new challenges as they occur throughout life. In this way, your CBT experience can be as short or long-term as you need it to be.
